Eligibility
The following criteria are required to apply for LCT/LCT-C membership with CCTNB:​

1. You hold a master's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study prescribed by the CCTNB Board of Directors. (e.g. counselling, clinical or educational psychology, pastoral counselling, child and youth care, marital and family counselling, clinical social work, psychiatric nursing, applied behavioural sciences) . Accreditation differs depending on the location of the school. Canada: a government approved or authorized degree-granting institution USA: an institution regionally accredited by one of the following: What would they be? International: your degree must be evaluated by an international credential evaluation service and found to equate a master’s degree in Canada. Evaluators in Canada must be a member of Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada. Evaluators in the United States must be a member of National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

2. You have completed the counsellng course requirements. (e.g. counselling, clinical or educational psychology, pastoral counselling, child and youth care, marital and family counselling, clinical social work, psychiatric nursing, applied behavioural sciences) . What are the counselling course requirements? You have completed one course in each of four areas: Counselling Theory Counselling Practicum Counselling Skills Ethics A minimum of five, 3 credit hour courses from the following course section, must be identified on an official transcript: Assessment Processes Counselling in Professional Ethics Career Development Theory Group Counselling Specialized Settings Intervention Strategies Consultation Methods Methods in Evaluation Diversity Issues Human Development and Learning Vocational and Personal Development Lifestyle and Career Development Gender Issues Psychological Education Counselling Across the Career Lifespan Research and Evaluation You must complete this requirement to make application to the CCTNB. If a course title does not clearly indicate an affiliation to the category, please provide a course description with your application.

3. You have completed at least 150 hours of direct client contact during or after your master's program.

4. Provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. If you do not have a clean criminal record, please call us for more information.

5. Submit an up-to-date curriculum vitae, with details of your academic qualifications, counseling training and relevant work experience.

6. Possess or show an intention to purchase professional liability insurance.

7. Be prepared to sign an agreement stating that you have read and understood the College of Counseling Therapists of New Brunswick:

Application costs: Application fee (LCT/LCT-C): $125.00, one-time, non-refundable Application materials: Your cost to order transcripts, letters of good standing, criminal record and vulnerable sector check, credential evaluation (if needed) Insurance: If you are covered through an employer, you will need to fill the request for employment information. If you are not covered through an employer, you will need to purchase insurance upon registration. Membership costs: Annual licensed membership (LCT/LCT-C): $460.00 Annual non-licensed membership (Student/Retiree): $75.00
